This article examines the psychological and pedagogical characteristics of primary school students in the context of the formation and development of metacognitive processes. Particular attention is paid to the developmental characteristics of children aged 6–10 years, including the development of memory, attention, reflection, and self-regulation. The study demonstrates that this developmental period provides the foundation for the emergence of metamemory, intellectual and personal reflection, as well as planning and self-regulation skills. The importance of pedagogical support, the gradual transition from external regulation to self-regulation, and the use of play-based and visual learning strategies are emphasized. The article also highlights the role of digital technologies as effective tools for fostering and supporting metacognitive skills while stressing the necessity of appropriate pedagogical guidance to minimize distractions and ensure meaningful learning. It is concluded that primary school age represents a sensitive developmental period for the formation of metacognitive activity and therefore requires purposeful pedagogical intervention.
