The authors report that the analysis of surgical treatment outcomes in patients with obesity associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the comparison group revealed a number of significant shortcomings of traditional surgical strategies. These included age-related limitations for surgical interventions, insufficient differentiation in the selection of bariatric surgical procedures, disregard for the duration of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and the absence of a standardized diagnostic and therapeutic algorithm.
