The authors note that the development and clinical implementation of a modified therapeutic and diagnostic algorithm reduce the risk of complicatedforms of gallstone disease and provide a milder clinical course in patients requiring repeat cholecystectomy, while also decreasing the risk of emergency surgeries and repeat cholecystectomies. The authors conclude that the proposed modified algorithm represents a clinically justified, safe, effective, and economically sound approach to optimizing surgical management in bariatric practice, particularly in patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
