This article aims to clarify whether the Explanatory Dictionary of the Uzbek Language can serve as an object of terminological research. Dictionaries compiled for general vocabulary are compared with dictionaries of terminological lexis, and their similarities and differences are analyzed from a scholarly perspective. Words and word-equivalent units included in the Explanatory Dictionary of the Uzbek Language are examined. The study clarifies the cases in which the dictionary can and cannot serve as an object of research into terminological vocabulary. Particular attention is paid to the structure of the Explanatory Dictionary of the Uzbek Language and the principles governing the presentation of dictionary entries. Explanatory and terminological dictionaries serve as the illustrative material for the article.
