This article examines the cognitive and semantic features of the concept of milk/sut in English and Uzbek. The study is based on the idea that a concept is not limited to the dictionary definition of a word, but includes a broader body of knowledge, images, values, associations, and cultural experience stored in human consciousness. Although milk is a universal biological substance, its linguistic and cultural interpretation differs across languages. In English, the concept of milk is mainly associated with nutrition, daily consumption, kindness, abundance, and sometimes weakness or lack of will. In Uzbek, sut is more deeply connected with motherhood, purity, honesty, blessing, moral upbringing, and sacred family values. The article analyzes the central and peripheral meanings of the concept, its perceptual features such as whiteness, liquid form, taste and softness, as well as its cultural layers reflected in idioms and set expressions. Special attention is given to metaphorical meanings such as purity, maternal care, prosperity, infancy, experience, and moral evaluation. The comparison shows that both languages share common universal meanings based on biological experience, but each language develops its own cultural and emotional associations. The study concludes that the concept of milk/sut functions as a multilayered linguistic and cultural unit that reflects not only food culture, but also national worldview, moral values, and collective memory.
