This article examines the typological and poetic characteristics of child characters in the works of the American Nobel Prize-winning writer Pearl S. Buck. The study analyzes child characters in The Good Earth, Sons, A House Divided, The Mother, Dragon Seed, East Wind: West Wind, and The Child Who Never Grew through comparative-typological, poetic, psychological, and hermeneutic approaches. Particular attention is paid to the artistic functions of child characters, their role in character construction, the representation of family values, cultural identity, and humanitarian ideals. The findings reveal that child characters constitute an independent artistic category in Pearl S. Buck’s fiction and occupy a central place in her poetics.
