The article analyzes the lexical-semantic features of certain cosmonyms presented in Abu Rayhan Beruni’s work Chronology of Ancient Nations. The study examines the etymology and meanings of the names of celestial bodies, stars, and zodiac signs, as well as their place in the perceptions of ancient peoples. In particular, the etymological foundations of the cosmonyms used by Beruni and their connections with Arabic, Persian, Greek, and other languages are analyzed from a scholarly perspective. Furthermore, the relationships of these cosmonyms with religious and mythological views, folk beliefs, and astronomical knowledge are revealed. It is substantiated that the cosmonyms found in the work constitute an important source not only for studying the history of astronomy but also for investigating the worldviews, cultures, and scientific thought of ancient peoples. The findings demonstrate that Beruni’s legacy has significant scholarly value from the perspectives of historical onomastics and cognitive linguistics.
