This article analyzes international experiences in developing the research competence of future English language teachers. It examines contemporary approaches, models, and methodologies implemented in higher education institutions and research centers in developed countries such as Finland, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Ukraine, Russia, and others. In particular, the article substantiates the role of such approaches as action research, exploratory practice, exploratory action research, reflective self-study, reflective practice, lesson study, collaborative school-based action research, and the Capstone Project in fostering reflective thinking, analytical approaches, professional self-awareness, and scientific-practical skills among future teachers. In addition, mentoring, school-based practicum, academic supervision, independent inquiry, and scholarly communication are interpreted as important factors in the development of research competence. The foreign approaches examined in the study proved to constitute a comprehensive, mutually integrated, and mutually reinforcing methodological basis for the formation and development of the research competence of future English language teachers.
