This article examines the methodology of conducting an associative experiment among international students as a tool for identifying the characteristics of bilinguals’ linguistic consciousness and interference processes in learning. It analyzes the history of the associative experiment and describes its main principles, methods, and practical significance for teaching Russian as a foreign language. Approaches to planning and implementing the experiment in the context of linguodidactics are presented.
