This article examines phytonyms—the names of plants that play an important role in the history of the Uzbek language—based on ancient written sources. The historical forms, variants, linguistic nature, and areas of distribution of phytonyms are analyzed on the basis of Avesta, Bundahishn, Devonu lug‘otit turk, Boburnoma, Mahmud ibn Wali’s Bahr al-asror, as well as various dictionaries and encyclopedic sources. The article is grounded in scientific analysis from the perspectives of linguobotany, historical lexicology, and onomastics.
