Annotatsiya

This study explores the historical evolution of zoonyms in English and Karakalpak languages and, moreover, analyzes how cultural, ecological, and social factors have shaped their semantic development. Using comparative-historical and linguocultural methods, the research shows that although both languages employ similar cognitive mechanisms for forming metaphorical meanings, they diverge due to distinct cultural worldviews and historical experiences. English zoonyms exhibit greater semantic shift influenced by Christian narratives, scientific taxonomy, and language contact, whereas Karakalpak zoonyms display stronger stability rooted in pastoral life and mythological traditions. Overall, the findings demonstrate that zoonyms function not only as lexical items but also as cultural indicators reflecting collective identity and historical memory.
