This article provides a comprehensive analysis of air pollution and the deterioration of the environmental situation in Tashkent through the prism of sociological theories and concepts. The study highlights the impact of changes in the urban environment, the reduction of green areas, traffic congestion, and emissions from industrial enterprises on the lifestyle and psychological well-being of the population. The article applies the Chicago School’s theory of urban ecology (R. Park, E. Burgess), Ulrich Beck’s concept of the “Risk Society,” Glenn Albrecht’s concept of “solastalgia,” and Anthony Giddens’s concept of “ontological security.” The author demonstrates that air pollution, especially PM2.5 particles, leads not only to negative effects on health and the biological environment but also to such social problems as social anxiety, alienation, loss of social capital, and psychological distancing. In addition, the article discusses the environmental awareness of the population, ecological anxiety among Generation Z and parents, and issues of eco-activism. It concludes that the problem should be addressed through a systematic and long-term environmental policy.
