The article examines gaps in the legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan governing works created using artificial intelligence (AI) systems. Based on a comparative legal analysis of the legislation and relevant legal documents of the Republic of Korea, the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom, four interrelated gaps are identified. The first is the absence of clear originality criteria for distinguishing autonomously AI-generated outputs from works created with AI assistance. The second is uncertainty regarding the threshold of human creative contribution, given the limited transparency of neural networks. The third is the unresolved issue of authorship. The fourth is the absence of a legal framework governing the use of protected works for AI training. The article argues for preserving the anthropocentric nature of copyright while adapting it to digital creativity. It further proposes that human creative contribution should serve as the central criterion for both copyright protection and authorship, while the use of protected works for AI training requires a distinct legal regime, for which the model established by Directive (EU) 2019/790 provides a suitable basis.
