This article examines population growth in Uzbekistan since independence, its territorial distribution, urbanization, and registered internal migration from a historical-demographic perspective. SIAT data are used to analyze national population trends for 1991–2023, regional changes over the comparable period of 2010–2023, and the derived internal migration balance for 2023. Administrative-territorial changes and the reclassification of settlements as urban or rural limit the direct comparability of long-term statistical series. The findings indicate that national population growth should not be equated with a unidirectional concentration of the population in the capital, as regional population growth rates and registered internal migration balances reflect distinct demographic processes. The article argues that historical-demographic interpretation requires the explicit identification of territorial boundaries and statistical methods.
