The physico-chemical and mechanical properties of ceramics and composites, which in many respects are superior to modern alloys, are not widely used due to processing difficulties. They can be treated qualitatively by the electrical discharge method, if the process of removing these materials is clearly revealed. In this work, we study the practical results of the removal process of dielectrics in aqueous-alkaline electrolytes, obtained on the improved electrical discharge machine. In particular, we found that the removal process is closely related to the collective influences of alkaline water electrolytes, electrical discharges and thermal effects. The obtained results lead to a comprehensive understanding of the sequence of the removal process of dielectric materials in aqueous-alkaline solutions, which ensures their high-quality machinability and widespread application in contemporary industry.
