The article examines the problem of developing the information and communication competence of students at a pedagogical university in the process of learning Russian in the context of the digitalization of education. The aim of the study is to provide a theoretical rationale for and experimentally verify the effectiveness of using Canva as a tool for teaching students to create multimodal texts. The concept of multimodal text is clarified within the context of language pedagogy, its didactic functions are outlined, and the author’s methodology for the gradual development of multimodal text production skills is described. The results of the pedagogical experiment are presented, confirming the positive impact of the proposed methodology on the development of the information and communication competence of future teachers.
