This article explores the theoretical foundations of studying the oxymoron within the framework of modern linguistics. While traditionally viewed merely as a stylistic device or a figure of speech based on logical antonymy, contemporary linguistic paradigms necessitate a broader and more integrated approach. The study investigates the semantic, cognitive, and pragmatic dimensions of oxymorons, revealing them as complex cognitive mechanisms for conceptualizing paradoxical phenomena in human experience. By analyzing various linguistic theories, the paper proposes a multidimensional framework for studying oxymorons, highlighting their role in expanding semantic boundaries, creating conceptual blending, and expressing complex emotive-evaluative meanings in discourse.
