The article examines the theoretical foundations of investigative journalism, reveals its distinctive features, its place in the system of modern journalism, and the specific aspects of the formation of this field in independent Uzbekistan. Particular attention is paid to the role of investigative journalism in strengthening democratic institutions, increasing the transparency of public administration, and developing civil society. Based on an analysis of scientific literature, regulatory legal documents, and national practice, the article identifies the main problems in the development of investigative journalism and considers prospects for further improvement of this field in the context of the development of the national media system.
