In today’s digital revolution and the global growth of mass media, audiovisual translation (AVT) has become a key area of study within modern translation research. This paper presents a comparative analysis of subtitling and dubbing, focusing on the balance between technical limitations and creative freedom when translating content from English into Uzbek. By examining the mechanics of both methods, the study highlights the linguistic and technical difficulties caused by the structural differences between the two languages. In subtitling, shifting from the English Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) order to the Uzbek Subject-Object-Verb (SOV) structure, along with the agglutinative nature of Uzbek, causes text expansion and visual delays for the audience. In dubbing, the main challenge is the constant tension between phonetic lip-sync and semantic accuracy, especially in close-up shots where longer Uzbek phrases must fit into short English time frames. To resolve these issues, this paper suggests an optimization model based on syntax restructuring, text shortening, and careful audio-visual alignment during the script-editing phase. Ultimately, the study shows that achieving successful communication in the Uzbek AVT industry requires the cultural adaptation of humor and realia, ensuring that the translated dialogue corresponds perfectly with the visual action on screen.
