Annotatsiya

This article presents a comparative literary and linguistic analysis of the pragmatic features of Abdulla Qodiriy’s O‘tkan kunlar (Bygone Days) and Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. The study examines the communicative functions of literary discourse, the intentions behind authorial and character speech, and the role of implicit meaning shaped by context. The findings reveal that in Bygone Days, pragmatic features are primarily expressed through social status, norms of etiquette, and traditional patterns of communication. In Anna Karenina, pragmatics is mainly associated with the individual’s inner psychological state, personal conflicts, and individual speech strategies. The comparative analysis demonstrates that pragmatic characteristics are closely connected with the national and cultural context and highlights the distinctive features of the literary language in both novels.
