The article examines irony as one of the key components of A. P. Chekhov’s idiostyle from a linguostylistic perspective. It analyzes the specific features of the functioning of irony at the lexical, syntactic, and textual levels, as well as its role in shaping implicit authorial modality. It is shown that Chekhov’s irony is not only situational but also text-forming in nature, serving as an important means of organizing artistic meaning. The study concludes that irony in Chekhov’s prose and drama acts as a structural principle of his idiostyle and reflects the peculiarities of the writer’s artistic worldview.
