This article analyzes the psycholinguistic features of teaching and learning English speaking. It focuses on the major variables that affect speaking development, including age, motivation, language anxiety, willingness to communicate, working memory, and output. The article also examines the evolution of foreign language teaching methods and its relevance to speaking instruction. Based on recent studies, it argues that successful speaking development depends not only on age but also on sustained communicative practice, emotionally safe classroom interaction, strategic instruction, and meaningful use of language. It concludes that a psycholinguistically grounded model combining communicative teaching, task-based learning, and blended support is especially effective in higher education.
