The article analyzes the complex relationship between science fiction and its translation in historical and theoretical terms. Based on the views of Darko Suvin and Carl Freedman, the role of fantasy in alienation, social criticism, and the modeling of alternative worlds is revealed. The non-transparency of the translation process and the inevitability of semantic and stylistic “disturbances” are highlighted in the historical trajectory of the dispute between “word-for-word” and “sense-for-sense” translation, which began with Cicero. Bassnett’s interpretation is expanded through the example of the translation movement and cultural succession during the Abbasid period. Beginning in the twentieth century, Benjamin’s concepts of “afterlife” and “pure language”, Toury’s theory of norms, and Lefevere’s model of patronage demonstrate the cultural and political architecture of translation. Post-structuralism (Derrida, Lacan) and feminist and postcolonial approaches (Spivak) focus on issues of power, language play, and the preservation of cultural differences in translation. Venuti’s concepts of “domestication” and “foreignization” are also considered.
