This article analyzes shortcomings encountered in practice when law enforcement agencies appoint supplementary and repeat forensic examinations at state forensic institutions. The legal grounds for appointing supplementary and repeat forensic examinations, the criteria for differentiating between them, and the legislative experience of foreign countries are examined. Based on the research findings, the criminal procedural and forensic science aspects of appointing examinations at state forensic institutions are studied, and scholarly proposals and practical recommendations are developed.
