The article presents a comparative legal analysis of criminal law norms establishing liability for environmental pollution based on the experience of foreign countries. The study compares the systems of environmental crimes, their differentiation (by forms of guilt and consequences), and penal sanctions in the criminal codes of the CIS and European Union states, including Lithuania, Belarus, Moldova, Russia, Spain, Austria, Germany, Serbia, as well as the People's Republic of China. Advanced approaches in foreign legislation, such as separating environmental crime components into distinct articles by environmental mediums, the institution of criminal liability for legal entities, and preventive mechanisms, are thoroughly analyzed. Scientific proposals and recommendations are put forward to clarify the evaluation criteria for negative environmental impacts and harm to human health, as well as to improve Article 196 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan based on the foreign experience reviewed.
