In the era of strengthened global mobility, language has become a central framework structuring migration pathway, educational access and labour market integration. This article explores the role of Japanese language acquisition in shaping the migration trajectories and social integration of Uzbek students and workers in Japan from a human development perspective. The study defines migration as “language-mediated”, where linguistic competence operates as a requirement and a facilitator of transnational mobility. Using a qualitative research design based on secondary data analysis and thematic synthesis of academic literature, policy reports and empirical migration studies, the article reviews how Uzbek migrants navigate Japan’s education system and labour market. The findings indicate that Japanese language proficiency significantly enhances access to higher education, professional training and employment opportunities, while also contributing to intercultural adaptation and identity transformation. However, structural barriers, including language hierarchy, institutional constraints and sociocultural distance, unfortunately continue to limit full integration. The study concludes that language education should be reframed as a fundamental dimension of human development and a strategic instrument in migration governance.
