This article examines the film director as the principal creative subject of a motion picture, emphasizing the significance of his creative role and functions. It analyzes the legal status of the film director as an author of the film and characterizes his absolute (inalienable) rights as a rights holder. The study also explores contractual relations with directors and the mechanisms for transferring exclusive rights to producers under copyright agreements. Uzbekistan’s experience is compared with international practice, with particular attention to the legal frameworks of the United States and European countries. Based on this comparative analysis, the article identifies existing problem areas and puts forward relevant proposals and recommendations aimed at ensuring the effective protection of film directors’ copyright rights.
