This article examines the semantic functions of metaphor and metonymy in literary texts from linguistic and linguocultural perspectives. Metaphor and metonymy are analyzed as fundamental figurative devices that enhance textual expressiveness, deepen semantic layers, and convey the author’s worldview. The study focuses on mechanisms of semantic transfer, the conceptual foundations of figurative language, and contextual interpretation within artistic discourse. Metaphor is shown to facilitate the concretization of abstract notions through associative mapping, whereas metonymy operates on the principle of contiguity between related entities. The analysis reveals their significant role in structuring meaning, intensifying emotional impact, and shaping the semantic architecture of literary texts. The findings confirm that metaphor and metonymy function not only as stylistic devices but also as essential semantic tools in literary communication.
