This research is devoted to one of the most relevant issues in modern cognitive linguistics, linguoculturology, and comparative historical linguistics: the disclosure of the etymological layers of the phraseological fund of the German language in the context of extralinguistic and cultural factors. The purpose of the article is to conduct a retrospective analysis of sociohistorical factors, such as the medieval legal system, including ordeals, the culture of knighthood, the religious and linguistic reforms of Martin Luther, and folk crafts, which contributed to the emergence of idioms that have been preserved for centuries in German communicative discourse, and to identify their cognitive patterns. Descriptive analysis, component analysis, and etymological and contextual-semantic methods were used in the research process. The results obtained show that although the historical motivation of linguistic units may disappear over time, the conceptual patterns they create continue to function dynamically in the national mindset. In the discussion section, the etymological models of the German language are compared with the linguistic worldview of the Uzbek people, and the fundamental symmetry and asymmetry in the expression of moral and social values through somatic codes in Western and Eastern cultures are cognitively analyzed. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that, for the first time, at the intersection of functional Skopos theory and linguoculturological approaches, the conceptual principles of the German and Uzbek translation schools are comparatively modeled using the example of somatic phraseologisms. The results of the study can be used in preparing lecture materials and special courses in Germanic philology, comparative linguistics, and translation theory at universities.
