This article analyzes the theoretical and practical significance of the sociopragmatic approach in the study of speech acts. A speech act is interpreted not merely as a grammatical form or lexical meaning, but as a complex communicative phenomenon shaped by social relations between speaker and hearer, communicative situation, cultural norms, politeness principles and illocutionary intention. Drawing on the works of Austin, Searle, Hymes, Leech, Brown and Levinson, Thomas, and Blum-Kulka, the paper discusses the sociopragmatic dimensions of speech act theory. It also demonstrates how social status, distance, degree of formality and national-cultural conventions influence the interpretation of requests, apologies, refusals, advice and invitations. The findings show that the sociopragmatic approach is essential for identifying the real communicative value of speech acts, explaining pragmatic failures, and developing communicative competence in language teaching and translation practice.
