This article analyzes verb complements and their structural-semantic characteristics within the framework of valency theory. The study examines the differences between obligatory and facultative complements, their functional role in sentence structure, and the principles of their representation in valency dictionaries. Particular attention is paid to the three-level descriptive model developed by Helbig and Schenkel, as well as to the omission test, ellipsis, and anaphorization methods. Latour’s anaphorization-based approach is also analyzed comparatively. In addition to the syntactic and semantic aspects of valency theory, the article highlights its practical significance in the compilation of bilingual valency dictionaries. The findings demonstrate that the valency system serves as an important methodological basis for describing relations among linguistic units.
