Annotatsiya

This article examines the transformation of ancient myth within the structure of a detective narrative, using Agatha Christie's short story "The Erymanthian Boar" as a case study. The analysis establishes that the connection to the myth of the Erymanthian Boar is realized not only through precedent names and plot parallels, but also through the reproduction of the ancient story's spatial model. It is found that the snow-covered, high-mountain setting in the story gradually transforms into a unique form of trap, correlating with the image of deep snow in the original myth. The article explores how the image of the mythological beast is transformed into the figure of a criminal concealing their identity. As a result, it is determined that the text actualizes not only central but also peripheral elements of the mythological plot, including the episode of the centaurs' attack. Furthermore, it is shown that within the detective discourse, the ancient plot model is reinterpreted: the physical hunt for the beast is replaced by the analytical identification of the hidden criminal.
