Annotatsiya

This article examines pragmatics, a branch of linguistics that studies how context shapes meaning in communication beyond literal sentence structure and semantics. Employing a qualitative methodology, the study analyzes spoken and written English examples, applying Grice’s Cooperative Principle and Levinson’s concepts of deixis and presupposition. Key findings highlight the roles of speech acts, implicature, and deixis in conveying intended meaning, and emphasize how pragmatic failures lead to misunderstandings in the absence of a shared social and cultural context. The discussion underscores the importance of pragmatics in effective communication, especially across cultures, and its relevance to language learning and artificial intelligence. Overall, the article offers a comprehensive overview of how pragmatic principles function in real-life language use.
