The Role of Oral Folk Tradition in Makhtumkuli’s Poetry

Annotatsiya

This article examines the role of folk traditions in the poetry of Makhtumkuli Firugi (1733–1782), a prominent representative of Turkmen and Turkic literature. The study analyzes the folklore materials employed in Makhtumkuli’s poems, the imagery characteristic of folk poetry, as well as the genres and artistic methods associated with oral tradition. The folk roots of Makhtumkuli’s creative work are explored in depth, and the relationship between his poetry and folk poetic tradition is revealed on the basis of scholarly literature and academic research. The article also highlights the significance of Makhtumkuli’s literary legacy in the cultural and literary development of the Turkic peoples.
