J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy world is widely recognized for its exceptional depth and internal coherence. This article explores the historical and mythological sources that influenced the creation of Middle-earth, focusing on Norse, Anglo-Saxon, Celtic, and Finnish traditions. Special attention is given to Tolkien’s concept of myth-making and the role of mythology in shaping narrative structure, characters, and naming systems. The study shows that Tolkien’s world is not a random creation but a carefully constructed secondary reality based on historical and mythological thought.
