The article examines the phenomenon of domestic violence as a complex socio-psychological issue connected with family, household, and gender relations. Particular attention is paid to distinguishing between the concepts of “family violence,” “violence in the family,” “domestic violence,” “household violence,” and “family-household violence,” since each of these terms emphasizes different aspects of violent interaction. The article analyzes the main forms of domestic violence, including physical, psychological, sexual, and economic violence. Special attention is given to public tolerance toward violence, the insufficient recognition of certain forms of abuse in social consciousness, and the influence of patriarchal cultural attitudes, social stereotypes, and traditional ideas about male authority within the family. The article also considers major theoretical approaches to explaining the nature of family violence.
