The article examines the transformation of the principle of secularism under conditions of globalization and informatization from a comparative sociological perspective. It analyzes the crisis of classical secularization theory, comparative models of state–religion relations, including assertive and passive secularism and “principled distance,” radicalization in cyberspace, and two opposing governance scenarios in Muslim-majority regions. Drawing on the concepts of P. Berger, J. Casanova, J. Habermas, C. Taylor, O. Roy, and T. Asad, as well as on the research of Uzbek scholars, the author highlights the experience of legal secularism and the enlightenment-based model of New Uzbekistan. Based on empirical data from the Pew Research Center (2025) and R. Inglehart (2021), the article assesses the religious–secular dynamics of the modern world. Moderate, inclusive secularism is substantiated as a legal guarantee of social stability.
