This article provides a comparative legal analysis of the procedural status of expert opinions, their evidentiary significance, and the legislative norms governing their assessment in certain countries belonging to the Romano-Germanic legal family. Based on the experience of Germany, France, the Netherlands, Ukraine and Russia, the article examines the concept of an expert opinion and the criteria for assessing its admissibility, reliability, relevance to the case and evidentiary value. It also presents certain theoretical and practical conclusions concerning strict and free models of evidence assessment, the inner conviction of the court, grounds for declaring an expert opinion inadmissible, and the improvement of national legislation.
