This article analyzes the concept of expert opinion in criminal proceedings and the specifics of its use. The author attempts to reveal the content, legal nature, and distinctive features of expert opinion compared to other types of evidence. The research highlights the theoretical foundations of the concept of expert opinion, the views of domestic and foreign scholars, as well as the role and significance of this institution in the current criminal procedure legislation. The author points out the procedural status of expert opinion, the requirements for it, and the criteria for its evaluation. At the same time, some problems encountered in practice are identified, and proposals aimed at their elimination are put forward. In particular, the author's definition of the concept of expert opinion is developed, and its specific features are determined. The article comprehensively covers the issues of using expert opinion as evidence and analyzes its role in the process of proof.
