The article provides a detailed analysis of the historical development of the inspection institution in criminal proceedings, examining the main stages of its emergence and formation. It highlights the earliest forms of investigative inspection reflected in the Laws of Manu in India, Chinese medical sources, and the Carolina Laws, as well as the activities of special investigators known as "khoyakh" during that period. The development of the inspection institution is thoroughly studied through Islamic sources, particularly the inspection rules in the Quran, legislation of the Russian Empire, the Criminal Procedure Codes of the RSFSR of 1922 and 1929, the Criminal Procedure Code of the Uzbek SSR of 1959, and the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan during the independence period. The article provides scientific and theoretical analysis of various types of investigative inspection that evolved throughout history, including crime scene examination, corpse inspection, and document inspection, along with their procedural requirements and documentation specifics. Additionally, the article discusses the current significance of this institution, its scope of application, and issues related to its further improvement.
