This article analyzes the theoretical, constitutional, and international legal foundations of criminal-law protection of copyright objects. The study focuses on Articles 149 and 149¹ of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the content of the reform introduced by Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. ZRU-1080 of August 8, 2025, the personal non-property and property components of copyright, forms of copyright infringement in the digital environment, and new legal risks associated with artificial intelligence technologies. The article argues that intent, social dangerousness, the amount of harm, and the sufficiency of civil-law remedies should serve as the key limiting criteria in the criminal-law assessment of copyright-related offences. The study concludes with recommendations on improving forensic examination methods, clarifying the boundary between administrative and criminal liability, and developing mechanisms for copyright protection in the digital environment.
