This article presents a comprehensive study of the place of bioinformatics databases and bioinformatics algorithms within the system of intellectual property objects. The author substantiates the thesis that these objects occupy an independent, yet legislatively unrecognized, place within the system of protected results of intellectual activity. They simultaneously possess the characteristics of copyright objects in terms of the creative component of data selection and arrangement, while extending beyond the classical categories of intellectual property law due to the personal-biological nature of their content. The article proposes the author’s own definitions of a bioinformatics database and a bioinformatics algorithm, reveals their three-level structure, formulates a system of qualifying features, identifies gaps in the current legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and proposes measures de lege ferenda.
