A Methodological Cluster Model of “HEI – Research Institute – Industry” and the Integration of Digital Simulators in Higher Education

This article investigates the improvement of an innovative methodological system for teaching the specialized course “Syngas Chemistry and Technology” at higher education institutions specializing in chemical technology. To overcome persistent disciplinary fragmentation in students’ thinking (destructive compartmentalization syndrome) and the cognitive dissonance arising during the transition to real industrial process control, a “Methodological Cluster Model” (“HEI – Research Institute – Industry [JSC Navoiyazot]”) based on the principles of autopoiesis, together with a four-stage heuristic algorithm, was developed. The didactic principles underlying the use of a digital “Sandbox” environment built on the Aspen HYSYS simulator and a Crisis Screening environment incorporating time-constrained emergency scenarios were scientifically substantiated in terms of their role in developing students’ transprofessional engineering and environmental thinking, emotional intelligence (EQ), and a proactive anticipatory stance. Analysis of the experimental results using the parametric Fisher F-test and Welch’s t-test demonstrated an exceptionally large practical effect of the proposed methodological system (Cohen’s d = 1.64) and a high level of reliability of the findings.
