This study investigates the role of implicature in English diplomatic discourse from a pragmatic perspective. It examines how implied meanings function as strategic tools in international communication and analyzes their contribution to politeness, indirectness, and ambiguity. Using a qualitative approach, the research explores authentic diplomatic texts and learner’s responses to identify key pragmatic challenges. The findings reveal that implicature is essential for managing sensitive interactions, while its interpretation remains difficult for non-native speakers. The study also proposes pedagogical implications for improving pragmatic competence in English for diplomacy.
