The article examines the legal nature and role of the pre-investigation review of crime reports and complaints within the criminal procedure of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It identifies key legal and practical challenges related to procedural uncertainty, time limits, and the evidentiary value of materials obtained at the pre-investigation stage. The study substantiates the need to improve the pre-investigation procedure in line with international standards, digitalization trends, and enhanced protection of individual procedural rights.
