This article examines the role of Mahmudkhoja Behbudi as one of the key representatives and ideologists of the Turkestan Jadid movement at the turn of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The study analyzes the socio-historical conditions that shaped the emergence of the Jadid movement, the evolution of Behbudi’s socio-political and educational views, and his contribution to educational reform, the development of the national press, and the formation of Uzbek theater. Special attention is paid to the significance of Behbudi’s journalistic and pedagogical activities in shaping national self-consciousness and modernizing Turkestan society. The article concludes that Behbudi’s ideas and practical activities played an important role in the intellectual and cultural renewal of the region and had a significant impact on the subsequent development of social thought.
