The global journalism industry is undergoing a period of unprecedented transformation under pressure from artificial intelligence and the creator economy. Based on a Reuters Institute study (280 editorial managers from 51 countries) conducted in January 2026, this article analyzes eight key trends: the search engine revolution (a 43% drop in traffic over three years), competition from the creator economy ($500 million by 2027), a strategic shift towards unique content, the development of multi-format “liquid content”, the introduction of agent AI (75% of editorial offices expect a major impact), the spread of deepfakes (+1780% from 2019 to 2024), the decline of social media and news fatigue, and the transformation of business models. Based on the analysis, recommendations have been formulated for reforming journalism education in Uzbekistan, including the integration of AI literacy, strengthening ties with industry, developing media literacy, creating research centers, and developing an ethical framework for the use of AI.
