This article presents the results of a sociological study aimed at identifying the characteristics of news content consumption and the audience's attitude towards modern mass media in Uzbekistan. The empirical basis of the study is data from a survey of 126 participants, predominantly representatives of the youth audience. The paper examines the frequency of accessing news information, preferred sources and formats of news consumption, the level of trust in news sources, as well as the main problems of modern media according to the respondents. Attention is paid to identifying discrepancies between audience expectations and media practices. The obtained results indicate the dominance, first and foremost, of social networks—both as sources for reading news in general and as the most trusted source. A high demand from the audience for the reliability, fact-checking, and ethical nature of news content is also expressed.
