This article reflects the research on the role of translators operating in the Turkestan region. The article describes the formation of the activities of translators who are officials of the Turkestan region departments and who provide private services to the local population. The article provides examples and facts from the central state archive of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and an analysis of their activities is carried out from the point of view of the requirements of Legislation in force at that time. Discussions are given about what is the negative and positive realities of translators operating in the Turkestan region. Parallels are drawn between translation activities and the activities of defense lawyers in the judicial and legal system of the Turkestan region.
