This article examines the widespread issue of domestic violence in Uzbekistan by analyzing official statistics, cultural determinants, and the shortcomings of the judicial system. Drawing on global data from the World Health Organization—which states that one in three women experiences physical or sexual violence—the study highlights similar alarming trends in Uzbekistan. National reports reveal a rapid increase in protective orders and court cases, particularly in rural areas, where traditional patriarchal norms and gender stereotypes prevail. The paper discusses how economic dependency, limited awareness of legal rights, and social stigma contribute to the perpetuation of violence against women. It further explores systemic challenges, such as the excessive use of reconciliation in courts, which often results in soft penalties for perpetrators and even the penalization of victims who act in self-defense. Drawing lessons from international best practices, including the Istanbul Convention and experiences from European and North American jurisdictions, the article offers concrete recommendations for comprehensive legal and social reforms. The ultimate goal is to spur policymakers, legislators, and community leaders to take decisive actions that ensure effective protection and rehabilitation for victims, thereby fostering a society where domestic violence is unequivocally condemned and prevented.
